Having examined the roots of the conflict between Taiwan and China, from the individuals to the societies to the bigger picture of the world, questions abound.
Hopefully I have done my part to show where this conlict stems from, but as a side note, one final question should be addressed:
What does the future hold for this situation?

There are only two paths this story can take.
One is to go to war.
In this event, the Chinese are so far behind in their military training (the author recalls a recent picture of foot soldiers being trained in knife-techniques) that they would likely lose.
If not for the nuclear arms they are believed to possess.
Despite the predicted loss, the People's Liberation Army of the PROC woud still fight due to its nationalistic zeal, and many lives would be lost.

The other end to the story is peaceful settlement.
While this settlement may either be reunification or independence for Taiwan, the result is much better than a war.
Because much of the conflict was caused by outside influences, it is a matter for the world as a community to deal with, to reach a resolution that will mean cloture for all involved.
